Task 3 – John French

I have decided to study John French. A famous photographer that mainly did fashion and portrait photography but also did other types of photography such as projection photography. I have gathered these three images from google images and I will later replicate them for my recreations.

Paisleys On Model

This photograph shows a woman from the 1960’s covered in paisleys. I have decided to recreate this photograph because I like the way that the model is posing, it is almost like as if she is posing in an abstract way I also like the way the light is contrasting on her face, it also looks like she is still and gentle.

Floral Projection

In this image, the model is projected with florals. I see this picture as pretty and elegant because of the way that the model is posing. I can also that she has her arms crossed, I think that this give the picture an elegant feel to it. One thing I like about this photograph is that she is looking someplace else and not at the camera, this gives the impression that she is daydreaming and that she looks innocent.

Circled Patterned Projection

In this final image, its shows a woman covered in circle patterned projection, I like this image because it links with human abstract for example, how the woman is positioned. I would say that this picture looks unique and has a funky feel to it. I think that the reason why French did projection photography is because he tries to match each projection with and emotion.

I have decided to choose John French as my inspiration for my 3 recreations. I had edited my images using photoshop.

Floral Recreation

Here, I have done my own version of John french’s floral projection. I have tried to create this image by using photoshop and creating a hard light. I like how I have created the flowers to make it look like it is in a projection. The flowers make the model seem as if she is gentle and innocent. To be honest, I think that both pictures look identical because of both models features such as the wide eyelashes, the way their arms are crossed etc.

Paisley Recreation

I have done another recreation of john french’s image featuring a model covered in paisley projection, I had edited this on photoshop. What I did was I got a picture of a paisley background and placed it on top of my picture, widened it and then made the image of the paisley transparent and shaped the background by rubbing out the background shape to fit on the model.

  

Circle Recreation

This is my final recreation before I do my own creations. I achieved this by firstly duplicating a layer, then transporting the image of the circles onto the image of the image of the subject. After this, I made the image of the circles bigger and placed it on on the subject, shaped the circle image to fit on the subject. I think that my recreation looks similar to John French’s image, I can tell by the the way that my subject is posing and the direction of the the light is pointing.
